Green Island’s main shore entry: a reef flat, a shelf, then a wall — the easiest good diving in Taiwan.

You walk in over a reef flat on Green Island’s west coast, cross a shelf at 5 to 10 m and arrive at a wall that falls past 25. Hard coral cover is genuinely good, the Kuroshio keeps the water warm and clear most of the year, and turtles are routine rather than an event. The giant Porites head known as the Big Mushroom stood offshore from here for something like twelve hundred years until Typhoon Nepartak toppled it in 2016; operators still visit what is left. Current along the wall can run, and the walk in over the flat is slippery enough to be the most likely way to get hurt here.
Ferry from Fugang harbour in Taitung to Green Island, or a short flight; the site is a few minutes by scooter from the harbour.

Before you get in
- A wall. There is no bottom in sight to judge against, so depth is kept by the gauge alone — and it is easy to end up deeper than intended.
Taken from this site’s recorded depth, type and current, and nothing else. An empty list is not a safe site — the sea on the day, the local geography and the boat traffic are not in it. The briefing on the spot comes first.
