Sail Rock breaks the surface between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan with nothing else around it for miles, which is why everything in the Gulf that is passing stops here. A chimney runs up through the rock from 18 m and surfaces at 6 — enter at the bottom, come out at the top, and do it one at a time. Whale sharks are the draw and are genuinely seasonal rather than promised: March to August is the window and nobody can do better than that. The rest is barracuda, trevally and a wall of snapper that parts and closes.

Two hours by boat from Koh Tao or Koh Phangan. Most shops run it as a two-tank day trip.
