Hin Daeng is a rock that barely clears the surface in the open Andaman sixty kilometres off Koh Lanta, and its south wall drops past 50 m into blue. The whole thing is covered in soft coral — the red that gives it its name — and the current that feeds that coral is what brings the mantas and the whale sharks, often in the same week in February and March. Its neighbour Hin Muang is 200 m away and deeper again. This is an advanced dive: depth, current, no shallow refuge, and a long way back.
Day boat from Koh Lanta, two and a half hours, or a liveaboard out of Phuket.

Before you get in
- Deeper than recreational limits. It carries a decompression obligation and gas planning, and is not a dive to plan without that training.
- A wall. There is no bottom in sight to judge against, so depth is kept by the gauge alone — and it is easy to end up deeper than intended.
- Recorded as a site with strong current. Settle your gas reserve, when you would call the dive, and your surface signal before you get in.
- A drift dive: you do not come back to where you went in, so boat pickup and an SMB are part of the plan rather than extras.
Taken from this site’s recorded depth, type and current, and nothing else. An empty list is not a safe site — the sea on the day, the local geography and the boat traffic are not in it. The briefing on the spot comes first.
