The Daymaniyats are nine uninhabited islands and a protected reserve, and they are the reason Oman is a diving country rather than a stopover. Granite and coral from 5 to 30 m, turtles nesting on the beaches and resting under every ledge, and whale sharks aggregating from late summer into November. The Arabian Sea's upwelling makes the water green and cold for a month in summer and clear the rest of the year — September to November is when both the visibility and the whale sharks are there. The reserve closes to landing in nesting season; diving continues.

An hour by boat from Al Mouj or Bandar Al Rowdha in Muscat. Permits are handled by the operator.

Before you get in

  • A wall. There is no bottom in sight to judge against, so depth is kept by the gauge alone — and it is easy to end up deeper than intended.

Taken from this site’s recorded depth, type and current, and nothing else. An empty list is not a safe site — the sea on the day, the local geography and the boat traffic are not in it. The briefing on the spot comes first.
