El Boiler is a seamount off San Benedicto topping out around 12 m. Giant oceanic mantas — some with five-metre wingspans — visit cleaning stations here and are unusually curious, often hovering over divers apparently to feel the bubbles. Operators ask divers not to touch and not to swim above them; the encounters happen because the animals choose to stay. Silvertip sharks and dolphins are regular. Liveaboard only.

Liveaboard from Cabo San Lucas; roughly 24 hours to the Revillagigedo islands.

Before you get in

  • Past 30 m, where no-stop time and gas both go quickly and nitrogen narcosis starts to show.
  • Recorded as a site with strong current. Settle your gas reserve, when you would call the dive, and your surface signal before you get in.

Taken from this site’s recorded depth, type and current, and nothing else. An empty list is not a safe site — the sea on the day, the local geography and the boat traffic are not in it. The briefing on the spot comes first.
