Goseong is the top of the Korean east coast and Munam is where most of Seoul learns to dive in the sea. The East Sea has almost no tidal range, so there is no slack to wait for and no current to plan around — you walk in off the beach or take a five-minute boat out to the rock, and the reef runs from 8 to nearly 30 m. It is cold: 10 °C below the thermocline even in August, which is why the good visibility and the drysuit arrive together. Summer and early autumn; winter here is swell.

Two and a half hours from Seoul by road to Jukwang-myeon in Goseong; shops sit on the beach road.
