The cave is a short surface swim from the Cape Maeda stairs. Light entering underwater reflects off the white sand floor and turns the interior blue — brightest around midday. Depths inside stay under 10 m, so it works for snorkellers and first-time divers, and the reef outside runs to about 20 m. It is busy: the site takes thousands of visitors a year, so early slots are worth booking.

About an hour by car north of Naha; steep staircase down to the entry platform.

Before you get in

  • A cavern — inside the daylight zone, but still with a ceiling, and with stretches where you cannot simply go up.

Taken from this site’s recorded depth, type and current, and nothing else. An empty list is not a safe site — the sea on the day, the local geography and the boat traffic are not in it. The briefing on the spot comes first.
