Osezaki is a spit of land reaching into Suruga Bay, and the bay side is sheltered enough to dive when everything else on the peninsula is blown out. The slope is sand and rubble rather than reef, which makes it a macro site: frogfish, nudibranchs, seahorses and mandarinfish at dusk. It is the closest good diving to Tokyo and consequently busy at weekends. Water is cold outside summer and most local divers use drysuits from November.
About three hours by road from Tokyo to the Izu peninsula; shore entry from the beach.
