Y-40 is a pool in a hotel in Montegrotto Terme, filled with thermal spring water held at 32–34 °C, and it is 42 m deep. For a decade it was the deepest pool in the world. There is no cold, no current, no swell, no visibility to wait for and no boat — which is exactly the point: it removes everything except the dive, so a freediver training equalisation or a scuba diver running a deep drill is left with only the thing they came to work on. There are suspended glass tunnels and underwater caves at depth, and the whole column is lit. Nothing lives in it.

Before you get in
- A cavern — inside the daylight zone, but still with a ceiling, and with stretches where you cannot simply go up.
- Deeper than recreational limits. It carries a decompression obligation and gas planning, and is not a dive to plan without that training.
