Dean's Blue Hole is a sinkhole in a bay on Long Island: you walk off the sand into waist-deep water, take ten strides, and the bottom is 202 m below you. There is no current, no boat, no swell inside the bay, and the wall is vertical from the surface — which is why Vertical Blue has been held here since 2008 and why most of the world's depth records were set in it. A line is almost always rigged in competition season. For everyone else it is a shore dive anybody can swim out to, with the sobering property that the water under your fins goes further down than any of them can.
Drive to Turtle Cove on Long Island, Bahamas — an hour from Deadman’s Cay airport. Walk in off the beach.

Before you get in
- A cavern — inside the daylight zone, but still with a ceiling, and with stretches where you cannot simply go up.
- Deeper than recreational limits. It carries a decompression obligation and gas planning, and is not a dive to plan without that training.
- A wall. There is no bottom in sight to judge against, so depth is kept by the gauge alone — and it is easy to end up deeper than intended.
Taken from this site’s recorded depth, type and current, and nothing else. An empty list is not a safe site — the sea on the day, the local geography and the boat traffic are not in it. The briefing on the spot comes first.
